Only the organisms that the poison is lethal to. However in my experience most corals and such survive.

That's good to know, of course, if ever my future cubicus' tank was shaken I'd do an immediate and large water change just to be safe. What are the tell-tale signs that your boxfish has released Ostracitoxin?

Everything starts acting strange and dying. However ostracitoxin releases really aren't as common as most misinformed aquarists make them out to be with this specific species of cowfish. Be sure to cycle carbon in the aquarium and do larger water changes if it ever is released.

I guess I'm partially a misinformed aquarist... Of course, that's why I'm here
I cycle carbon in my tanks anyway; except for when I'm treating an illness of course.

Only when the cowfish feels potential danger does it release toxins. It is very rare. When the cowfish dies it will NOT release toxins because it feels no harm...
